The BMW water powered car has been in the works for quite some time. In 2006, a process using electrolysis to split water into hydrogen and oxygen and fuel cars was patented. However, critics state that this process has to be perfected before it can be safely used for a long term. BMW is one of the auto makers interested in creating cars that run on alternate fuel. Using hydrogen to power cars is nothing new and has been tried repeatedly in the past. A BMW water power car today will use both hydrogen as well as gasoline to run. Although some critics scoff at the idea of water power, others state that it is possible and that a BMW water powered car that runs strictly on H2O is the way of the future.
